You may have seen our new Celluma light in the office, if not, you will next time you come in, but what is it, why are we offering it and how can it help you with your treatment goals?

The Celluma offers low level LED light therapy which can be used for many

purposes. Although this technology is complex, the basics are this, different wavelengths of blue, red, near infrared or a combination penetrate the skin at different levels absorbing into the photo acceptors of mitochondria and increasing production of ATP, improving micro-circulation, reducing inflammation, promoting wound healing, encouraging hair growth, enhancing acne treatment through killing bacteria and supporting mood. The Celluma is an FDA cleared, medical grade device that has peer reviewed research to back it.

In TCM speak we look at this type of light therapy as tonifying or strengthing qi. It is a way to bring energy into the body. It also nourishes yang qi. Yang can be thought of as thermodynamic and is essential for metabolic processes and warmth. We're finding the light therapy enhances acupuncture treatment effectiveness and also allows for treatment expansion. For example, suppose we are working on digestive issues, and you also have acne. In that case, we can use acupuncture to focus on the digetive concerns but add the Celluma with the acne setting over your face.

LED light therapy is very safe and appropriate for use at any age over 12, so its a great addition to treatment.
